By distributing the 800 spaces over a few strategic downtown locations, including short-stay spaces, the counter-project offers parking closer to the various shops, restaurants and services. Combined with the dynamic signage of available spaces, as recently voted by the local council, every motorist will be able to find a place to park more quickly, and every space will be better exploited. Fewer places, more on offer! Last but not least, other possibilities for optimization remain open, such as the use of parking lots in the area’s shopping malls outside opening hours, or a parking offer in peripheral parking lots (PST in particular) combined with free or low-cost public transport to the center.
The counter-project’s reorganization of parking will also enhance the unique setting of our magnificent historic center, particularly Rue de la Plaine, which deserves better. As demonstrated by the 2021 COMO survey of 6 medium-sized towns in French-speaking Switzerland, including our own, the quality of the ambience is clearly highlighted as the primary factor in the attractiveness of city centers by customers. In Yverdon-les-Bains, 75% of the center’s customers live or work in the town. This shows that there is plenty of scope for shifting from the car to other modes of transport. This will make parking in the center more accessible to people who are less mobile or come from villages with poor public transport links.
